Graphic design, branding and photography – they all enhance your business and bring it to the next level. It’s not just a spare luxury – it’s a must which brings measurable profits.

Here are several tips on how to use branding and photography in a smart way making your business irresistible to clients:

1. Put quality photography first.

Most of people are rating the product or service through the visual aspect. Sometimes even when that product itself doesn’t have a physical form.

A crisp, professionally looking photography always attracts the clients. For many people it’s a promise that your product or service is reliable and your company is serious.

2. Make your product stand out with the blurred background.

People usually associate professionalism in photography with an  item standing out of a blurred background called the bokeh. That effect can be achieved by using a wide open lens with a low aperture – which I usually do while photographing and creating branding for my clients.

That simple trick has always great results – try it out.

Even with non-visual businesses like music or finance – photography is crucial. A CD cover is a representation of the music and a sign in front of the finance institution can either encourage or discourage the use their services. Of course it will never replace the actual musical skills or a life-time of experience but certainly will make those qualities stand out and attract new clients.

3. Change words into images.

It’s crucial to show what business offer clearly. You don’t want to leave your client confused. Think of some items that will instantly inform your client what you can do for them.

If you’re a drummer – show drumsticks or a cymbal for example. Or, if you run a coffee shop, show a cup of hot coffee. How about thinking of something outside-of-the-box? That’s even better! But most importantly – it has to be a clear and understandable message.

4. Remember: Less is more!

I love what the architect Mies van der Rohe said about design: less is more. As your branding’s first and most important task is to inform, it should be simple and readable. For me that’s the essence of good design, photography, architecture and all sorts of visual arts.

Minimalistic and readable image will make your business look professional. The less cluttered your logo, business card and website will be, the higher you’ll be rated by your clients.

Pick one most impressive thing and build your branding around it.

Keep it simple!

5. Use symbols to strengthen qualities.

As a society we’re used to showing certain qualities in a graphical form. From impersonating a god into an animal to showing a finance company in the shape of a lion – we do love symbols and communicate with them.

Symbols don’t need to be literal – sometimes a very simple shape can show qualities such as professionalism, innovation or dynamism. Thanks to life experience our mind is used to understand them. Make use of it creating the visual identity of your business.
